Lowell Sipes

Born 1973 in the Arapahoe County, Colorado, USA, Lowell holds a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from Regis University, a Master of Arts in education from the Colorado Christian University, a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Metropolitan State College of Denver, and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts at the Goddard College in Vermont. He recently moved to Adliswil, Switzerland with his Swiss wife Vera.

“To remember is a gift. At times the act of remembering can bring a myriad of sensations all at once, and they can become a timeline as diverse as a fingerprint, yet reveal themselves to be reflections of the experiences. Some memories struggle to reach the surface, distracted by thousands images and digital photographs that attempt to replace the organic need to recall.

My work takes inspiration mostly from the natural world. It is about reviving, exploring and celebrating memories, through a mixed medium work on canvas, and though interdisciplinary installations. I enjoy acrylic paint and mediums, graphite and aerosol paint on canvas, and shaping cast-off wood into a refined vehicle for imagery and installation spaces. I utilize my own 35mm and digital photographic sources as a starting place for the images I produce.” L. Sipes
